BELLY DANCE BOOTCAMP WEEKEND! with master dancer SAQRA June 4-6, 2010 ALL CLASSES at SAQRA'S STUDIO in Kent, WA (Seattle area for you out-of-towners) Over 18 hours of workshops in 2.5 days! Plus SATURDAY EVENING GALA at Jimmy T's in Kent featuring performances by Bootcamp participants, RaqsBand & Saqra plus special guests! Space is limited to keep quality high, so get your spot as soon as info is released!

WORKSHOPS by package type: All choreography classes have cultural information and technique information where appropriate to enhance your understanding along with your actual dance skills. WEDNESDAY 6:30-10pm Lively Zill Choreography to the upbeat traditional Turkish song "Uskadar" -- Full finger cymbal instruction included before the routine begins. THURSDAY 9:30-12 and 1-4 "Andah Alaik" Classical Arabic Choreography - Beautiful, complex music composed by Mohammed Abd al-Wahhab. 5-1/2 hours. History & technique. 6-9pm EVENING POTLUCK HAFLA with live music and Hasapiko instruction - a fun and lively Greek line dance in the traditional style. History and technique FRIDAY 9:30-1pm Drum Solo Choreography - hot new drum solo choreographed fresh by Saqra for 2007 plus technique 2-4:30pm Career Counseling Lecture and Q&A. So you want to... be a soloist, feel more creative, have more dance opportunities, dance at local clubs, start a regular show, travel, start an event, start a troupe, become a teacher, increase your class size, become a workshop instructor. Proven techniques presented and a chance to discuss your own problems or interests. 7-9:30pm Ghawazee Tribal Improv Style Choreography - Routine is taught in a tribal style cued format using all Banat Mazin Ghawazee moves. Basic finger cymbals will be taught and are usually used in this style but can be eliminated by the dancer if needed. The Ghawazee are Egyptian street/celebration dancers. See video of Khyriya Mazin taken in 2006 to get the flavor and current costuming. SATURDAY 9:30-12:30 Turkish Rom Style Choreography - though this is usually a spontaneous dance, this choreography to earthy Rom ("Gypsy") music fresh from Saqra's trip to Turkey in '06 will help you to cement your technique. 1:30-3:30 Practical Stagecraft for Belly Dancers - Lighting, room and stage dynamics, achieving special effects, make-up effects 6:30-9pm Evening Gala at the Moonraker! With RaqsBand, Saqra, workshop participants and other special guests! SUNDAY 9:30-12:30 Double Veil Choreography to the gorgeous song "Yar Tou Noush Es" recorded by Khatchig Jingirian, plus technique 1:30-4:30pm Editing CDs by Computer for the Novice - How to use a readily available free program to edit your music for those with only base level computer skills. Tips on how to select what to keep and what to throw away, when to fade and how fast. Identifying what to do to make edits more seamless for a more professional dance presentation. Written information and demonstration, some hands on work. Copy of the program on disk. Bring a laptop if you have one. Windows or Mac okay. Also tips on cutting to tape and how to talk someone else into burning it to CD for you for the primitive. TRIPLE DOOR is located at 216 Union St in Seattle Full and weekend package participants are invited to perform at the evening gala featuring RaqsBand & Saqra Please confirm your participation ass soon as possible. You have a choice of recorded music or LIVE music with RaqsBand (www.raqsband.com). Dancers to tape/CD are limited to 7-9 minutes. Dancers to live music will get 9-11 minutes unless they request a shorter time. If all the available solo and group time is filled before you decide to commit, you will still have the opportunity to perform one of the routines learned during the Bootcamp in a group There will be an area to dress, a shuttle to and from the evening event if needed, good lighting & sound, and a floor level stage area. Any extra questions? Contact saqra@saqra.net Performers who contribute their performance to the show tape will receive a copy of as much of the show as people are willing to release. You will definitely get your own performance whether you release it to the show tape or not. You may refuse to release your performance to others, and then you will simply get your own performance for your own archives. SUGGESTED HOTELS -- all inexpensive but perfectly fine. To do your own search, the studio is located at 100 Railroad Ave S in Kent City Center. It is possible we may be able to arrange rides.
