DANCER/WORKSHOP APPLICATION  2008

Dancing on the main stage area is to tape/CD unless live music hours are requested  -- Live music hours:

  • Sat 7:30-9 AmericaniRaqsBandStan - A combo of Americanistan from Eugene & Saqra's Mediterranean RaqsBand from Seattle
  • Sun 12-1:30 AmericaniRaqsBandStan

Time limits: Short Solo 5 min, Solo/Duet 7 min, Troupe 10 min.

Dancing is from Noon to 9pm Saturday, Noon to 7pm Sunday. Signups accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, but cancellations and time shifts are common so don't hesitate to request a spot up to the time of the event. Only the first spot for one soloist or one troupe will be honored. Any multiple requests for one soloist or troupe will go on the waiting list.

No dance confirmations are usually sent to the dancer. Please see the official schedule for your time:   Check out the current DANCER LIST

WHO IS WELCOME TO DANCE?     YOU!!

Every year someone asks me what you have to do to be allowed to dance at the event. If they are new, are they too new? If they are professional and dance regularly should they not take up the spaces that others might use? My answer: SHOW UP BREATHING! This is a community event and there are dancers from all over at all levels.

  • Newbies! Come try your wings! (That is ESPECIALLY why the 5 min solo is available)
  • Professionals! Come promote your fabulousness!
  • Instructors! Dance your best and make 'em want to come to your classes! (and consider getting a nice ad in the program)
  • Turkish belly dance? Egyptian Bellydance? Tribal? Fusion? IRISH? POLKA? ALL welcome!!!

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT FEE:

  • At the time of the event you will be required to sign a liability release & will be asked for the $5 fee per dance spot when you check in.
  • The rate is the same for ANY dance spot solo, duet or troupe.
  • You will not be checked in without paying your fee.  
  • Please help us to be able to keep having registration by email by complying without complaint. If there are complaints to the check-in volunteers we will have to go to the mail-in system used by other festivals using the pay-to-play system, as it is cost prohibitive to accept the $5 payment through Paypal and it is unacceptible to give the volunteers grief.

 

VIDEO POLICY

All performers will be required to sign a loss & injury release and will be videotaped for the Showcase archives (not for public use). An additional release will be available for those willing to release their performance for the promotion and support of the Showcase, but is not required as a condition of participation in the Showcase. Free non-professional videotaping of your performance will be available as in past years. Bring your own tape (blank tapes will also be for sale on site- $5). We are able to produce DVDs this year and they will be mailed within 7 days of your performance. Other info to dancers is available at the bottom of the DANCER LIST

No one will be allowed to videotape any of this event without the permission of the participant involved and /or the express consent of Saqra because of past problems.

We want to keep the pre-reg prices available as long as possible for YOU so it gets a little complex. Thanks for your understanding!

Having trouble with Paypal? Please email saqra@saqra.net and request a bill be sent! Bills will probably be sent at the end of each day (barring internet issues) and the time of your request is considered the time of your payment, so if we can't get it out before the workshop you will be considered paid by our volunteers and can finish the transaction when you receive the bill.

Your assigned dance time will be as close as we can get to your desired time. If you do not select a time, the system will NOT assign you a time.

THIS MUST BE CHECKED FOR EMAIL APPLICATION TO DANCE OR PARTICIPATE IN THE WORKSHOPS TO BE VALID:I understand I must pay a $5 fee per dance spot on site at the time of dancer check-in, and ADDITIONALLY I hereby release Saqra, Washington County Fair Complex and all workers from any liability for any loss or injury incurred in association with the 2008 Showcase. AND FURTHERMORE, I will allow  myself to be videotaped for the Showcase archives (absolutely not for public showing). I understand that the Sun 12-1:30 time slot will be taped for Portland Cable Access unless I specifically request I am not included.
