in Kent For an appointment call: 206-762-5323 or e-mail MehndiMeredith@hotmail.com
Henna,
also known as mehndi, is the ancient art of bodypainting with paste made from
powdered leaves from the henna plant. Mehndi originated in the Middle
East, North Africa, and India. Traditionally, the hands and feet are
painted before important celebrations and the painting process is a festive
occasion as well. Usually a woman's
art, henna and henna patterns became the way women managed their vulnerability
and expressed their hopes as well as enhancing their sexuality and beauty. For a
dancer, Mehndi is the perfect way to enhance a costume, or just to celebrate
the beauty and grace of the person wearing it. I offer
a large range of designs from around the world. Mehndi is traditionally applied to the hands and feet, but can be
anywhere. Henna
designs can last anywhere from 3 days to 4 weeks, depending on the persons
skin and the after-care to the design. Please
note that you must leave the paste on for several hours to get a proper
stain, so please plan accordingly. It
can also take a long time to apply, depending on the intricacy of the design
you desire.
What does it cost? Designs
vary from the simple to the very intricate, and cost depends on that. A simple
single design starts at $10. Wrist or
ankle bands are $20. A full
hand design (either palm or back) is $40. A full
foot design is also $40. Both
hands with the same design is $60. Both
feet with the same design is $60. One
design that joins two hands or two feet together is $80. Other
designs are negotiable. Mehndi Henna Body Art Meredith Hale, artist at Saqras Eclectic Mall on the corner of Railroad and Meeker
