Swedish Massage was begun in the 19th century
by Swedish physiologist Per Henrik Ling using Swedish
gymnastics and range of motion movements involving body
stretching. Swedish massage consists of long, gliding
strokes over the body, using essential oils. Lifting,
kneading and tapping are techniques also in massage.
Massage gives you many benefits. It relaxes the nervous
system and aids your circulation, releasing endorphins.
It reduces stress, helping relieve pain in joints and
muscles.
After a Swedish massage you feel very relaxed. You
need to drink lots of water to help detoxify the body.

Aromatic Body Stone Therapy
|
Aromatic Body Stone Therapy integrates the
use of smooth, heated basalt rocks hand picked from
the coastline of Puget Sound, essential oils, and Swedish
massage strokes.
The stones are heated with water in a roaster oven,
then the massage therapist applies them to the body using
her hands and essential oils.
Swedish massage techniques are used throughout the
massage to induce total comfort and pure relaxation.
Aromatherapy used with the heat of the water and
stones aids relaxation to the limbic brain.
Five warm stones are placed on the chakra points
on the front of the body in alignment with the spinal
column to help promote balance of energy. One of the
major chakra points is the heart, which is the center
of love, harmony and peace.
Aromatic Body Stone Therapy became popular in the
late 1990s. Asian cultures have used the chakra system
for about 4000 years.

Reflexology uses the thumbs, knuckles and
fingers to apply pressure to specific reflex points
on your feet. Reflexology can also be done on your hands
and ears, but the feet are the most common. There are
7200 nerve endings in each foot, interconnecting with
the spinal cord. When pressure is applied to certain
foot areas, it triggers the release of stress and tension
to the part of the body you want to work on. It also
unblocks nerve impulses to improve the blood supply
to all parts of the body. Clients usually feel relief
from tension and pain, a greater feeling of well-being,
and have an increased level of energy. Some forms of
reflexology were practiced by ancient Egyptians dating
back to 2300 BC.
Dr. William Fitzgerald, an eye, ear, nose and throat
specialist, wrote a book called Zone Therapy in 1917.
He used a form of reflexology to anesthetize areas of
the body before surgery. Now, it is accepted therapy
for a wide range of body ailments.

Deep Tissue Massage is very similar to Swedish
massage, using longer, deeper, slower gliding moves.
People who have chronic, deep tension and stress really
appreciate this. Using an elbow with direct pressure
on a specific area and slow, deep breathing from the
client is a sure relief of tightened muscles. When using
the forearm a broader area is covered, similar to a
rolling pin effect. You need to drink plenty of water
after this treatment to aid the release of toxins from
the body.

|
Trigger Point Massage is used anywhere on
the body for pain. When direct pressure is applied
using pin-point finger centralization on the tissue,
tension is relieved. It may also trigger a release sensation
within close range to other areas of discomfort. The
area where pressure is applied may not be the area of
pain. When pressure is applied, a referring area can
be identified and treated. For example, pressure along
the scapula may identify pain along the arm to allow
treatment to take place more accurately.
